Is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and researcher at Bordeaux University Hospital and the University of Bordeaux. He works within the BioTis Tissue Bioengineering Unit (INSERM UMR 1026), where his research focuses on developing innovative biomaterials and medical devices for cranio-maxillofacial reconstruction. His work aims to design bio-inspired, biocompatible, and resorbable bone adhesives as alternatives to traditional metallic fixation systems, improving surgical outcomes and reducing the need for secondary implant removal. He contributed to the development of a double-site animal model (calvarial and mandibular) used to evaluate tissue-engineered bone constructs. His current projects investigate biomaterial–tissue interactions, particularly the use of cell-assembled extracellular matrix (CAM) membranes to reduce inflammatory and foreign body responses in vivo. Clinically, Dr. Schlund specializes in orthognathic and orbital surgery, combining technological innovation, translational research, and patient-centered care to enhance both functional and aesthetic outcomes in cranio-maxillofacial surgery. Alongside his research and clinical activities, he is actively involved in academic teaching, lecturing in national and inter-university programs on oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthognathic techniques, and head and neck anatomy, contributing to the education and training of future surgeons.
