4DBR – 4-Deep Brain Reconstruction (H2020)

Abstract

Reference

Charles Handschin

Project Leader

The 4-Deep Brain Reconstruction (4-DBR) project is a Horizon Europe EIC Pathfinder Open initiative that aims to develop new strategies for regenerating damaged brain tissue in neurodegenerative disorders, with an initial focus on Huntington’s disease. The consortium plans to create an implantable 4D bioprinted “reconstructed brain” that reproduces key aspects of human brain architecture, including relevant cell types, vascularisation and functional neuronal networks.

By combining advanced bioprinting, molecular biology and optogenetic approaches, 4-DBR seeks to improve graft survival and integration compared with existing cell and organoid transplantation techniques, and to generate a robust preclinical foundation for future therapies targeting a range of neurodegenerative conditions.
